Tutu and Palestine

Rachel Corrie, a young activist, was bulldozed to death in 2003 in the Gaza Strip, while trying to save the home of a Palestinian doctor. This highlights how high moral ground is not found in war zones. Her writings have been turned into a play, adding to her role as a cause celebre.

Last month, Desmond Tutu was to speak at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul on the issue of Palestine. The president of the university withdrew the invitation for Tutu to speak. But, declining to allow the Nobel Prize winner to speak embarrassed the state of Minnesota, so he changed his mind, and maybe he will show up after all. What Desmond Tutu said elsewhere was less well reported than the controversy over his invitation to St. Paul's premier party school.
