Fantasy Baseball-- Team Reports

The Bazooka Kazoos seem poised to finally take over first place in my Yahoo League. Every position seems more than solid. David Ortiz was dropped only because Teixeira and Longoria are better. The pitching trails the pace by 63 IP, so I am behind in Ks and Ws. I look forward to both Ks and Ws from Jon Smoltz, starting tomorrow. The team's worst pitcher has been Francisco Liriano, but 74K/83IP is actually pretty good. FAs include Kuroda, Nolasco or Mazzaro, so dropping Liriano is likely.

The Asakusabashi Bazookas, my CBS money league is gelling nicely. Tommy Hanson and Jon Smoltz, who are finally active, provide additional quality 2-start pitchers (whoops, jinxed it). My big trade was Pujols for Utley and Pence, and suddenly the Bazookas go from one of the weaker MIs to possibly the strongest MI (with Alexi Ramirez and Robinson Cano). J. P. Howell, seems to be the Rays closer, so that makes the points I have in the save category sustainable, since K-Rod and Capps can not be expected to lead teams with four closers all year long. Waiver wire find Adam LaRoche (with Miguel Cabrera, David Ortiz and Blalock/Gamel) make the corner infield/utility at least competitive. I rely too much on "unprovens" like Mat Gamel, Chris Coghlan, and Carlos Gonzalez, and even with the addition of Hunter Pence, the outfield is weak, though there are plenty of reinforcements available on the waiver wire. I still think I have a shot at third in this league and smugly think I can pass the first place team, though the currently fifth place team looks pretty strong. Winning without protections may be too much to ask, but at least the team looks like it belongs in third (or maybe second) now.
