No Roof for the Minnesota Twins
A new stadium design has been unveiled. Wikipedia
Unlike the Metrodome or Mall of America, the planned stadium is designed without a roof. Some heating is provided on the field to melt snow. Some heated areas will be provided for "less hardy" fans.
What's wrong with the 25 year old Metrodome? Most of the seats do not directly face the field, as the dome was designed for football. But, it isn't attendance that drives the new stadium. More likely, the issue is that the team wants more money from conscession sales, which are run by the Metrodome, not the Twins. Metrodome Stadium review
In less than fifteen years, the Metrodome lost its novelty. The Twins have been lobbying for the stadium for more a decade. Who pays for it? Hennepin County. Why? Threats that the Twins will leave.
The Metrodome is not a great stadium for baseball, but when will Minnesotans learn that their weather sucks? The Twins may have reason to leave after they build this new stadium. Ownership will learn that they can't sell tickets or hotdogs to people who stay home because of Minnesota's chronic bad weather.
Despite its flaws, I'd rather watch games in the dome.
