Richard Nixon, G. W. Bush and ...

Why do republicans such as David Brooks, 3/4/08 and Peggy Noonan believe Barack Obama is the less sinister and stronger democrat?

Stuff like this, I guess, though one can blame youtube if one wants.

Here is my message to people who get their information from television, rather than from direct contact with the candidates or the printed word. Please do not vote.

If you base decisions on campaign commercials, please seek help. Your opinion is no more relevant than the opinion of children. You need to ignore that little graphic on the corner of the TV screen that says, VOTE2008. The people on the other other side of screen have the interests of their sponsors at heart, not yours. The purpose of the graphic and of the politics they air is to sell products. In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States. You know you should not vote. STAY HOME.

Subscribe to a good newspaper such as New York Times or Wall Street Journal. At least once in a while, read the articles all of the way until the end. Your local newspaper may subscribe to their wire services and these articles count, too. (Articles about the sex lives of candidates do not count.) Read publications from outside of the United States, such as The Economist or The Guardian.

Read editorials. Agree with some of them, and more importantly DISAGREE with some of them. Starting a day or a week before the election is not good enough. You have to start now.

Thank you for reading this. I am sorry to pick on you literate people, when you are not the problem. You will vote and vote well.
