The Twins need a DH
Even if Kubel is the only one with a homerun so far, it appears that the Twins have respectable outfielders when Young, Kubel, and Cuddyer bat. Carlos Gomez, though raw, is at least exciting, as when he is able to bunt, he gets on base, and when he flies out, it is generally not a pop up. Denard Span, to be fair, seemed to be about as good as Gomez on Thursday when they both played. Sadly, having Span and Gomez in the lineup at the same time and seeing the Twins not score enough runs to win is no coincidence.
Joe Mauer is batting patiently and well and is throwing out runners like a top catcher.
Morneau leads the team in homeruns, as he should. Harris and Tolbert seem to be able to handle a bat. Everett should never see the bench, based on his glove, whereas watching Punto yesterday, it seemed like every play was a near disaster, as Punto nearly created two collisions with teammates.
Lamb is off to a poor start, but if he must see the bench, please let us see Buscher rather than Punto.
Craig Monroe, so far, has been the second coming of Rondell White, though so far the 400 Bar has not offered beer at the same price as Craig Monroe's batting average.
Tim Dierkes, Rotoauthority, believes a viable fantasy baseball strategy is to play whatever pitchers face the Twins and Giants. Yes, the Twins make just about every pitcher look good.
A lineup of Gomez, Mauer, Cuddyer, Morneau, Young, Kubel, Harris, Lamb/Buscher, Everett would actually not be so bad. But, that still leaves Punto, Span and Monroe on the bench, and Ron Gardenhire will play them. It sure seems like Frank Thomas or Barry Bonds at DH would do a lot for this offense. Why not, Bill Smith?
