Mid-Way Report
The Bazooka Kazoos (Yahoo) still are not in first, though the team cracked the top 20,000 overall. Trading David Aardsma for Jimmy Rollins helps. The hitters--Sandoval, Teixeira, Zobrist, Jeter/Rollins, Longoria, Kemp, Upton, Quentin/Bruce and Cabrera-- make it likely to achieve sixty of sixty possible points in the hitting categories. Currently, the team leads in R, SB and AVG. The pitching is led by Carpenter, Bedard, Hanson and Smoltz, but is drug down by Liriano and Chamberlain. The team now has 6 pts-8.5 pts. in all pitching categories with no solid plan to improve. I suppose I should try to trade a brute for Santana.
In the CBS league, Asakusabashi Bazookas are in fifth, just barely in the money, 4.5 points behind second place. The team may move up if pitchers better their ERA and WHIP projections. The pitchers are second in wins and in the middle of the pack in saves, which I could not have counted on to start the year. The hitters currently have 10 points for HR and 11 points for R. Trading Pujols for Utley and Pence was my biggest move to date, though there is no reason to change much more. Random variation is probably more important than any move I make. I just have to hope for healthy players. The best team (on paper) is now ahead of me, but a couple of questionable teams are also ahead, with many points up for grabs.
