Ballywood III: A second trade

Ballywood opened some roster space with the following trade: Kevin Youkilis, Chris Perez and Phil Hughes for Mark Teixeira, R.A. Dickey (dropped for lack of Ks) and A.J. Burnett (dropped for poor ratios).

The systems I follow have Teixeira at about $10 higher than Youkilis. It is tempting to keep Youkilis as a backup at 3B, and of course of possible that Youk will have the same season as Teixiera. The rap on Teixiera is that his Aprils are always terrible, but as he is swinging a bat instead of lifting weights this Spring, maybe he can break out of the pattern.

I regard Perez and Hughes highly, but with six more closers on the roster and upside on the board, I choose to go with the upside. I wanted some roster space.

Erik Bedard may or may not be recovered, but is throwing. His history is as a top pitcher, when healthy. I also picked up Bryce Harper, the wunderkind, in the off-chance that his C-OF eligibility is MLB-ready at age 18. (I think he is supposed to go on the Hall of Fame ballot next year.)
