Fantasy Team April Review
With one month almost down, it seems time to take a look at who is on the teams and who is available. Matthew Pouliot will rank the players, looking forward, this weekend. This review ranks the players looking back.
In both leagues, the question is pitching, as several starters rank in the lower echelon. Asakusabashi has a solid hitting lineup, with Mitch Moreland (who seems excellent) and Derrek Lee (picked up as an FA after a slow start) closest to being weak links. Bollywood is missing a solid third baseman with the injury to Zimmerman, but otherwise is solid.
Catchers:
Wilson Ramos (2,8,6,0,.375) ranks sixth at catcher per CBS and appears due for more starts, as Ivan Rodriguez would seem to be a tradeable commodity for the Nats. J. P. Arencibia (2,5, 8, 0,.246) ranks 18th. No one with more at bats than these two are ranked above them. Top free agents are players like Yorbit Torreabla and Hank Conger.
Mike Napoli (5,10,11,0, .262) ranks seventh in the Yahoo game. No free agents are ranked higher. Ramos, Torreabla and Posada are available.
First Base:
A-Gonzalez (1,11,15,1,.306) ranks 16th. Mitch Moreland (3,13,10,0,.279) ranks 22nd. Derrek Lee ranks poorly, though not so poorly as an Asakusabashi starter. Smoak, a free agent, ranks just above A-Gone, so far this year.
Howard (4,13,21,0,.293) ranks ninth at first base, Teixeira (6,16,16,0,.253) ranks 11th, Lind (4,13,29,1,.263) ranks 13th. Top free agents are Pena, Wallace and Smoak.
Middle Infield:
Reyes ranks 2, Phillips 5, Lowrie 9, Roberts 28. Darwin Barney and Jonathon Herrera rank above Roberts so far in 2011.
Phillips ranks as the number 5 2B and Lowrie ranks as number 10. Angel Sanchez (2B/SS), Cuddyer and Aviles (2B/SS) are top FA. Reyes is number 2 at SS, Lowrie 5 and Andrus 7.
Third Base:
Lowrie now has third base eligibility and ranks 5th, ahead of A-Rod, 7 for the CBS league.
Zimmerman (DL) ranks 44th. Cuddyer, Valencia, Blake and Figgins have filled in so far, as Lowrie still lacks eligibility in Yahoo. Hannahan (Cleveland) is the top FA in both leagues based on 2011 performance.
Outfield:
Kemp ranks 1, Granderson 18, Heyward 33, Moreland 42. Stanton 54. Corey Hart has just played a few games. Logan Morrison (DL) is the top FA.
Quentin ranks 10th, Victorino 13th. Bourn 25, Lind 28, Heyward 31. Johnny Damon is the top FA.
Pitching:
Ogando ranks 10 at SP, de la Rosa, ranks 13, Garcia ranks 20, Nolasco ranks 30, Kuroda ranks 36. Morrow (in two starts) ranks 104. Jackson, Buchholz and Liriano had poor starts.
Fuentes ranks 11th RP , Farnsworth ranks 16, Feliz ranks 28. Perez ranks 35. Uehara ranks 92.
Valverde ranks as 5th RP, Kimbrel 6, Boggs 36, Brian Wilson ranks 100 at RP.
Pineda ranks 6, Ogando 12, Oswalt 28, Carpenter 58 at SP. Hudson, Bumgarner (FA pickup) and Liriano have had poor starts.
The tough call is who, if any SP, should be dumped. Some writers are suggesting dropping Liriano, though I will give him a lot of slack given his history, and weather may be partly responsible for the poor start. He lost his first game indoors to the powerful Blue Jays and won at Baltimore on a nice day. His other starts were in 45 degree weather, 52 degree weather and most recently during light snowfall.
