This is the first Midweek update of the year. You think I am excited because the teams are finally in the first half of the the twelve team league standings. Or, maybe, you think I am pleased because Adho Muhka is in first place by a fraction of a tad. Sure, that is true. But, even more exciting are possibilities.
Matt Kemp, of Team Shaw, is injured and Adho Muhka is in first place. I hope Adho Muhka does well and that it is not just based on Team Shaw's bad luck. I drafted the pitchers that were available and coincidentally they have all excelled.
Moore Ons gained 9.5 points yesterday based on homeruns by McCann, Pena, Cano, Freeman and Youkilis and were up 10.5 points for a while. Third place is just three points away. Wins (mostly luck) and SB (easily found) are the lagging-most categories. The first place team is leading handily in R, HR, and RBIs, so Josh Hamiliton needs to hurt himself immediately for anyone to overtake that team. The second place team looks more catchable as they are pushing toward their innings cap. Kyle Seager (to sub for injured Tulo), Mike Moustakas and Lucas Duda were all added for tomorrow based on season and recent performance.
Darfish are seemingly in a league that no one wants to win. Injury to Matt Kemp hurts chances here. Outfield/first base continue to be a mess, though Josh Reddick and Giancarlo Stanton are delivering power and it is nice to have Youkilis back. Pitching has been dominant enough though. Ike Davis remains rostered, which becomes less justifiable each week.
The big news is an Ottoneu trade. Matt Wieters plus Drew Pomerantz was worth Shin-Soo Choo and cash. With Joe Mauer and only 72 more games eligible at catcher, Weiters was expendable. The cash will come in handy for late season adds. It is still possible to compete in this league as Pts/GP and Pts/IP are competitive. At least two of the teams ahead in the standings are pitching more innings than rules allow them to sustain, which makes a finish somewhere in the first through fourth place range likely if Adam Dunn and over-performing outfielders like Jason Kubel can continue the way they have started.
