Fantasy Baseball Week 5
Here is where I lose credibility before I get started. None of my teams are in first place, nor very close to first place:
Darvish, Bedard and Jarrod Parker are one-start benched this week. Daniel Hudson is injured. Moore, Hamels, and Hanson seem like the top one-start pitchers, though not by much. Samarjiza and Colon have two starts. Closers are Marshall, Motte, Hector Santiago and Santiago Casilla. I dropped Lidge because a) he hasn't looked good, b) Henry Rodriguez with whom he has been alternating saves looks better, c) Drew Storen should be healthy in June, and d) Kyle Farnsworth is supposed to return from the DL soon.
Yakking Muggers (Ottoneu) show life as James Shields had two great starts last week. I have been offered several trades, so my league shows life, also. Apparently, Hanley Ramirez, still with SS eligibility, is just equal to Pablo Sandoval in a league where there is a MI slot but no CI slot. I am not convinced.
Players of the week are Freddy Freeman, Moore Ons and James Shields, Yakking Muggers. Which players rank in the top 100 for last week? Here is the list:
Team | Place | Points | Pts Behind | Last Week Place |
Last Week Points |
Last Week Pts Behind |
Yakking Muggers/Ottoneu | 10 | 1524.4 | 1158.2 | 12 | 695.7 | 754 |
Darfish/CBS money | 7 | 61 | 28 | 6 | 68 | 24.5 |

Adho Mukha/Yahoo | 2 | 79 | 12.5 | 4 | 75.5 | 5.5 |
Adho Muhka contains beginners. So far, I have picked up B.J. Upton off waivers, which might help except that the first place team just picked up Kevin Youkilis. I added Paul Goldschmidt for Brandon (bench player) Belt, as I trail in power.
The Yahoo Winners league with the Moore Ons has quick triggered ahead of me on every new closer. No beginners here! In the off chance that Joel Hanrahan might be hurt, I added Juan Cruz, dropping Vinnie Pestano until Hanrahan returned. Then, I added Jarrod Parker, the Oakland starting prospect. I added Alexi Ogando for Mark Melancon, based on his starter eligibility. I added Adam Dunn for Brandon (benched) Belt. Nothing to do but wait for the players to perform.
You might ask if the Winners League is really any more advanced than my Yahoo League with Adho Muhka. As a case study, take Daniel Bard, the possible future Red Sox closer. He is a free agent in one league and was claimed off waivers (after a bad start and before he moved to the pen) in the other.
The Darfish are strong in legs, but aside from Matt (Babe Ruth) Kemp who has 9 HR so far, are lacking in power. Jose Tabata brings primarily legs, so I drop him and John Mayberry, jr. whom the Phillies bench most of the time for Juan Pierre. The outfielder adds are Josh Reddick and Allen Craig, coming off injury. You might ask if the Winners League is really any more advanced than my Yahoo League with Adho Muhka.
