Fantasy Baseball-- Final Day

Tuesday, Tuesday.

Kyle Farnsworth got the save against the Yankees to keep Tampa Bay tied with Boston for the Wild Card lead. Jonathon Papelbon saved the game against the Orioles and took away some of the fun. The Wild Card remains tied. But, on Tuesday, Tuesday, Asakusabashi had a second save. Francisco Cordero walked the lead off batter, who was picked off. Then, after three more walks, a double play ball got him the save. Save standings are now 122 (11.5 points), 122, 121 (10 points), 120. It appears that the race for second place will be decided here.

The number six rated player Tuesday was Prince Fielder, 3/3 with 3HR and 5RBI. Jose Reyes was 3/6 with 2HR and a SB. Asakusabashi leads in HR, 312 to 303. In SB, Asakusabashi trails first by 9 and leads third by 5. But, this helps especially in the BA race where Asakusabashi's 0.2743 (10 points) leads 0.2736 (9 points). Nonetheless, Fielder and Reyes make you wonder what a player had to do to be ranked number one for the day.

The most remarkable team performance, ranked number two and almost equal in importance to the saves, was the Javier Vazquez (2.000 ERA, 9K, 0.5556) complete game. The Marlins came back 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, for the soon retired Jack McKeon and for newly named manager, Ozzie Guillen. Here is how strikeouts look: 1187 (9 points) with Strasburg pitching, Asakusabashi has 1182 (8 points), 1178 (7 points) with David Price pitching. It will be hard to maintain this point.

The Vazquez win makes the race for wins as follows: Asakusabashi has 88 (9 points), the third place Strasburg team has 86 (8 points). Jered Weaver was supposed to pitch, but was scratched. Likewise, Cole Hamels was scratched when the Phillies qualified. So, the Strasburg team is looking to advance two wins with just one starter instead of three. The Vazquez win (and late scratches) appears to have sealed the Asakusabashi win tally at 9 points. It would be hard to get to ten points since that team has 89 wins and both Gio Gonzalez and Tim Hudson pitching.

With a bad enough ERA, Asakusabashi could lose a point: 3.471 (7 points), 3.483 (6 points). (Hope against Matt Harrison.) Or, with good enough WHIP, Asakusabashi could advance two points: 1.2535 (4 points), 1.2524 (5 points), 1.2512 (6 points). (Hope the ex-Cub factor works against Lilly and Dempster.)

But, you want to root for a starting pitcher? Jon Lester needs to not be terrible or the third place team could advance in WHIP. But, if Papelbon gets another save, then that would be bad.

Most likely, it comes down to saves. Save standings are now 122 (11.5 points), 122, 121 (10 points), 120 (9 points). Asakusabashi has Farnsworth, Cordero, Feliz, Perez, Motte and 122 saves. The team currently in third has Papelbon, Hanrahan, League, Peralta and 121 saves. Anchorage has Storen, Santos and 122 saves. The 120 save team has Axford, Hernandez and Rivera. If Asakusabashi and Anchorage can keep a tie for first at 11.5 points, that should seal second place for Asakusabashi. Asakusabashi needs to retain the 1.5 point lead over the Papelbon, Hanrahan, League, Peralta team.

Daily Standings:
Asakusabashi 93.5 (likely -1 in Ks, today)
Third Place 92.0

Curious about the number one ranked performance of yesterday?
It was deemed better than Vazquez, Fielder and Reyes per the CBS computer: Madison Bumgarner (W, 0r, 2h, 9K, 7ip).
