No Divorce

Monica tells me that if I win my Yahoo baseball league this year, that she will not divorce me. With just one week to go, it appears that our marriage is safe for years to come. Bashibashi is at 103 points (the high water point for the year), with a 20 point lead over second place. This is a 14 point improvement over my 2006 team that finished in second place.

It started with a good draft. Then, on opening day, I was able to add B.J. Upton, whom I took as a base stealer, but became a five category star. Minor league call ups, Lincecum and Gallardo, were taken as free agents and were among the most reliable starting pitchers in National League. Closer pick ups Reyes, Accardo and Capps performed well and became trade bait.

The top draft picks performed extremely well as a group, and for the most part avoided injury:
Number 1 pick, Albert Pujols, has 31 homeruns and a .321 average. (It must be a disappointing season for him.)
Number 2 pick, Matt Holliday, is contending for NL MVP with 36 homeruns, 131 rbis, and a .339 average.
Number 3 pick, Jimmy Rollins, has 130 runs, a surprising 28 homeruns and 37 stolen bases.
Number 4 pick, Brian McCann, has disappointed with a .272 average, but still has 89 rbis.
Number 5 pick, Brian Roberts, has 45 stolen bases and will score 100+ runs.
Number 6 pick, Felix Hernandez, started lights out, but following an injury has posted disappointing ratios. 13 wins still lead Bashibashi.
Number 7 pick, Todd Helton, averages .322 for Bashibashi, getting more home starts than road starts.
I actually dropped Number 8 pick, Roger Clemens after an injury, then picked him up when Ben Sheets reinjured himself. Roger has chipped in 6 wins.
Number 9 pick, Jonathon Paplebon, has been lights out with 35 saves, 83K/55IP, 1.96 ERA, 0.80 WHIP.
Number 10 pick, Rich Hill, has an impressive 171 K/178 IP and 1.19 WHIP.

I dropped or traded everyone picked after number 10. Number 15, Barry Bonds contributed 25 HR to Bashibashi. 13 different closers contributed saves, with Paplebon, Corpas, Soria and Wilson closing the season with excellent ratios.

Yovanni Gallardo was skipped in a disastrous Colorado start, so the Bashibashi results are a 2.73 ERA and 1.19 WHIP.
Tim Lincecum only won 6 times, but threw 139K/136 IP.
Ryan Zimmerman contributed 20 HR with a .291 average in 419 AB.
B. J. Upton, in 372 Babashibashi at bats, has 70 runs, 19 homeruns, 67 rbis, 15 SB and a .306 average.
The lack of team injuries has allowed me to pick up Pedro Martinez and Rich Harden off the DL to close the season with four possible starts (two good ones, so far) and two possible starts.

Current Team stats:
860 runs, first, 12 points, +36 over second
221 homeruns, first, 12 points, +15 over second
806 rbis, first, 12 points, +17 over second
127 stolen bases, fourth, 9 points, +17 over fifth, -4 from third, -59 from first
.295 average, third, 10 points, +.001 over fourth/-.002 from second, -.005 from first
55 hitting points/60 total, with another 1 1/2 points possible.

69 wins, sixth, 7 points, +1 over seventh, -2 from fifth, -14 from first
114 saves, second, 11 points, +14 over third, -5 from first
1071 strikeouts, first, 12 points, +51 over second
3.83 ERA, fourth, 9 points, -.01 from fifth, -.08 from sixth, +.42 from third
1.25 WHIP, third (three way tie), 9 points, -.02 from second, -.08 from first
48 pitching points/60 total, with another 3 1/2 or 4 points possible

I like the odds for Pedro and Harden. Nonetheless, I am happy my marriage does not depend on it. Monica agreed to love me whether Bashibashi finishes with 100 points or 108 points.
