Fantasy Baseball-- Week 7
Asakusabashi declined one point to 83.5 and one place to third. Ballywood declined 3.5 points to 82.5 and one place to second. The strongest hitter of the week was Adrian Gonzalez with 5 HR. Garcia, Jackson and Kuroda each contributed a strong 7 IP and a win. Buchholz and Ogando won in strong performances on the bench. Phillips (10-24, 0.417 BA, 2B, HR, 8 RBI, 3 R) was strong for both teams. Of the five Ballywood pitchers contributing wins, only Daniel Hudson had a strong week as a starter. Kimbrel added a win, 9K and 2S in 4 IP. Valverde added 3S and 5K in 3IP.
On the negative side, Jason Heyward went 0-3 for the week due to shoulder issues. He was active for both teams. Adam Lind, who did not play at all, was benched all week for Ballywood. Carpenter won 1 of 2 games and added 9 Ks, but his 7.42 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in 13 1/3 IP hurt Ballywood. Liriano and Morrow gave up 12 ER in 11 1/3 IP for Asakusabashi. As partial redemption, Morrow won a game.
Asakausabashi added Julio Teheran, not for this week, but for next, dropping Derrek Lee. If he were to be a two-start pitcher in week 8, that would be ideal, though it is not likely given the schedule for the Braves. [Update: Teheran was dropped for Andres Torres, and Moreland benched, due to hamstring tightness and tough lefties.] The five projected two-start pitchers are Garcia, Jackson, Kuroda, Liriano and Nolasco. I am probably the last person to have not given up on Liriano. Ballywood did not add or drop during the week, though Ryan Dempster did become available for a moment.
Asakusabashi lags in Ks and SB points. The Ks should tick upward given the strength and depth of the pitchers. For SBs, the team seems to need one more burner. I can not believe the current pitchers will continue to struggle so mightily in ERA and WHIP for Ballywood; this should turn around as well.
