Michele Bachmann is not a liar
Nate Silver, of the New York Times, calculates Mitt Romney has a 40% chance of nomination. The next tier is Tim Pawlenty (18%), Rick Perry (12.5%) and Michele Bachmann (12%).
Republicans don't like Mitt Romney for the Massachusetts health care system that is similar to the national plan due to go in effect. Minnesotans still have not figured out if Pawlenty stands for anything, and chameleons tend to be quickly exposed in the bright light of national press. So, these two do not seem like nominees. Why would Republicans get excited about either?
However, Perry and Bachmann, the more ideological choices, should be taken seriously. Perry, because the last popular governor of Texas served two terms as US president, nearly wrecking the country out of neglect, and Bachmann, because she represents Republican ideology better than anyone else.
Liberals hate Bachmann and uniformly call her a liar. But, labeling Bachmann is like calling the late Johnny Cochran a liar. Bachmann is making the best case she can for her donors and constituents, just as Cochran made the best case he could for his defendants, who paid him well. She is doing a job and getting her face on TV. Bachmann's constituents are happy to be represented and happy that a strong case is being made for them. Bachmann's opponents parse these comments to try to make them sound ridiculous, but they are carefully phrased, even when wrong. There is lots on youtube, and Bachmann says plenty of incredible things. I hear points of view-- not truth, not lies.
Sarah Palin is the best thing that happened to the Bachmann campaign, as she truly is clueless. Bachmann will be underestimated based on comparisons to Palin. Both are attractive woman and some will wrongly assume that the superficial similarity makes them similar candidates. Gender may work in Bachmann's favor, as Republicans who did not support Palin will be able to claim that they are not opposed to the idea of a female president.
This is not to say Bachmann will win the 2012 election. But, those who would label Bachmann a liar are not the people who will get Bachmann defeated. (Keith Olbermann-- this means you!)
Label her with the worst stereotypes of attorneys-- ambulance chaser, media hog, shark, swindler-- if you want to defeat this formidable candidate.
